Why We Use Real Flowers on Our Cakes

It's one of the questions we hear most often when customers see our cakes.

The quick answer is usually, "Because it's common to see beautiful cakes decorated with fresh flowers in Mexico."

While that's certainly part of the inspiration, it's not the real reason, the real reason starts with a little girl named Izzy.

Back in 2018, life looked very different for our family. Becoming a bonus-parent wasn't part of my original plan, but it quickly became the greatest blessing of my life. Overnight, my focus shifted to helping raise three incredible kids and doing everything I could to give them the best life possible. 

Like many families, those early years weren't always easy.

I was working long hours, attending college, trying to build a career, and stretching every dollar as far as it would go. There were plenty of moments when the budget decided what was possible before we ever got a chance to.

Then came Izzy's birthday. 

Like many little girls, she had a dream cake in mind. She wanted a beautiful princess cake - the kind that makes a child stop and stare, and I wanted to give her that cake. 

But sometimes being a parent means making difficult choices. When you're balancing bills, groceries, diapers, formula, and everything else life throws your way, luxuries don't always fit into the budget.

The practical choice was obvious.

But that didn't make it any easier.

I couldn't give Izzy the custom cake she had dreamed about, but I also couldn't let her birthday pass without something special.

So, I got creative.

One trip to the store later, I came home with a simple chocolate cake and a discounted bouquet of flowers. I carefully arranged the flowers on top, hoping I could turn an ordinary cake into something magical. 

And it worked.

Izzy absolutely loved it.

She didn't see a clearance cake.

She saw her princess cake.

That simple moment became a tradition in our family, and years later, it became part of CookieYumm.

Today, every flower we place on a cake is a reminder of where we started. It's a reminder that beautiful memories aren't created by how much money is spent - they're created by the love, effort, and thought behind them.

It's also one of the reasons we work so hard to keep our prices as reasonable as possible.

Because we remember what it feels like to want to give a child something special. 

We believe every family deserves the opportunity to celebrate birthdays, milestones, and life's biggest moments without breaking the bank.

The flowers on our cakes aren't just decorations.

They're a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful traditions begin with doing the best you can for the people you love.

And that's a tradition we'll always carry with us.
